Astitva movie is a marathi short film. The brother and sister are inter-changeable, considered members of 'alla katha'. The movie depicts single filmy tale, which is based on a real-life incident. In the beginning of the movie, the brother takes a note of the sister's suffering. In spite of being a respectful person, she is unable to keep promise to her brother and openly spills the feelings of her brother. We realize that through his brother she feels bad about her mistake. The movie ends on a note that, every aspect of life is a matter of compromise. The setting of the story is at the backdrop of Maharashtra, where the cast and crew of the film lives. The story line was penned down by Anand Kulkarni.
Astitva is a 2000 bilingual film made simultaneously by Marathi and Hindi. It was directed by Mahesh Manjrekar. The screenplay was written by Anand Kulkarni and the story is by Mahesh Manjrekar. The film stars Sudhir Mishra, Kajol, Shammi and Neelam Kothari.The film was produced by Geeta Bali, the sister of Geeta Bali Gopinath. The shooting of movie was completed in 1997, but the makers took their time releasing film. The film received critical acclaim for its story, script, direction, music and the performances of the cast. Astitva marks the debut of actress Kajol, who portrays the character of Aditi Pandit. Astitva, in its Hindi version, will be screened in India on September 17, 2002, as an official entry in the International Film Festival of India. It has been screened in more than 500 cinemas in India in first week.
