Option/Alt is also used in lots of really handy keyboard shortcuts. A lot of the time combining the Option/Alt key with the Command key will enhance the standard option, so, for example, Command + Option/Alt + Shift + S will bring up the Save As option.
I am using an external keyboard which is a Windows keyboard. I am not able to use copy and paste command with ctrl and there is no command key or the option key in this keyboard. What is the shorcut for copy paste or cut paste on such keyboard?
A simple solution to this problem is to remap the Windows and ALT key and the command and option/alt keys on the Windows PC keyboard connected to the Mac, so that the keyboard layouts will mimic expectations based on the standard Apple modifier key layout, rather than what it says on the PC keyboard. For most Mac users who connect a PC keyboard to their Mac, this will dramatically improve their typing experience when using a PC keyboard.
Essentially you are reversing the Windows PC keyboard Windows and ALT keys (which become the Command and Option/ALT keys when connected to the Mac), which puts them in line with the default Mac and Apple keyboard layout of those buttons. Thus, the Windows PC keyboard Windows key becomes the new ALT / OPTION key on the Mac, and the Windows PC keyboard ALT key becomes the new COMMAND key on the Mac, just like it would be on an Apple keyboard.
Hi there. Was this ever resolved please? I tried going into the keyboard settings and changing option and command around but it would seem that Synergy overrides this. I made the mistake of buying a keyboard and without realising, they've swapped the command and alt button around. How very annoying of them
I have a similar issue. I have a Keyboard that allows me to change the keys from the keyboard itself. So i have set windows key to be command from the keyboard. However, Synergy is automatically mapping the key that it thinks should be Windows to command is reversing the setting I have set on the keyboard.Any suggestions for disabling automatic key-switching?For Reference the KeyBoard is WASD brand 10keyless
These keyboard shortcuts let you interrupt your Mac's normal boot process and can even change the way macOS behaves when you log in. Here's a handy guide to the full range of Mac boot options and startup keys, as well as when you might need to use them.
Want to stop all your login items and previous session windows from opening on launch? When you get to the login screen, enter your password as normal, then click on the Log In button (or hit Enter). Immediately press and hold the Shift key while your Mac logs in and boots up.
The option key in a Mac keyboard can carry out most of the functions of the alt key. But there are some differences. For example, the most common shortcut that Windows users are familiar with is the Alt+F4 shortcut to close a Window. But in a Mac, the alt key in this particular shortcut is replaced by the command key. The shortcut for closing a window on Mac is Command+W.
This is how you can find the alt key on a Mac keyboard. As you know by now, most of the functions of the alt key are split between the command key and option key in a Mac. Getting used to the Mac keyboard may take some time at first, but you will be able to carry out the same functions as you did on a Windows keyboard.
Windows Regional and Language Options control several options on your computer that may vary by region. Formats, Location, keyboards and Languages and Administrative Options. You can edit documents in multiple languages by changing the language (the input language) in which you type. Input languages are included with Windows, but you need to add them to your list of languages before you can use them.
Defective Command or 'R' buttons may be a big reason behind the mac recovery mode not working. Check your keyboard by using these buttons in other applications or by using a different keyboard for your Mac. You can repair the keys if they are faulty or replace the keyboard entirely.
Quickly fill the screen, or move and resize to vertical or horizontal halves on screen edges. Want quarter-size windows instead? Hold down the Option key, and the palette presents four quarter-size corner options, along with "center without resizing."
Full-size keyboards include all of the letters and numbers, function keys, media keys, and navigation keys, as well as a number pad and arrows. They take up the most space on a desk and can force your mouse into a less-ideal ergonomic position than smaller keyboards do. But if you use a number pad frequently or simply enjoy having a full-size layout, the Logitech MX Keys is the best Bluetooth option, the Leopold FC900R is the best full-size mechanical keyboard, and the Keychron C2 is a solid budget mechanical keyboard.
Another option which works well is to set your keyboard (in the Settings menu from the windows icon in the toolbar) to be "US International" layout. This does not change the standard typing on your keyboard, but you are now able to press the quotation mark before a letter in order to get an umlaut. Once you've changed your keyboard to "US International", simply press the quotation (") key, then release and type the letter you want under it: '"' + a = ä. To type ß, use the right alt key plus s = RightAlt + s = ß. 2b1af7f3a8
